LA SUPEROCEAN « SLOW MOTION »

S’inspirant du succès du premier chronographe SuperOcean (Ref. 807), Willy Breitling espère améliorer le côté technique de sa montre de plongée en offrant un nouveau chronographe qui permette une lecture aisée et sécurisée du temps de plongée, même à des profondeurs extrêmes.

Parce qu’un compteur de minutes est trop petit et offre une lisibilité peu aisée sous l’eau, Willy Breitling décide d’utiliser l’aiguille principale du chronographe pour indiquer le temps de plongée. A cet effet, Breitling met au point un calibre de chronographe unique appelé « Slow Motion », qui permet à l’aiguille du chronographe d’effectuer le tour du cadran au ralenti, soit en une heure au lieu d’une minute. Le plongeur peut alors lire directement le temps de plongée à l’aide de ladite aiguille et de la minuterie sur le cadran sans avoir besoin d’un compteur de minutes.

Willy Breitling trouve alors une solution technique à ce problème et met au point un indicateur de marche, situé à 6 heures. Lorsque le chronographe est en marche, cet indicateur affiche un disque jaune qui devient noir avec un petit point jaune au milieu lorsque le chronographe est sur pause et redevient noir lorsqu’il est réinitialisé et arrêté. Grâce à cette caractéristique technique ingénieuse, plus de risque d’oublier que le chronographe n’est pas enclenché une fois sous l’eau.

Cette montre est en parfait état comme les photos en attestent et a fait l’objet d’une révision complète en décembre 2021 chez Breitling pour un montant de 1700 € (détail sur demande).

THE SUPEROCEAN “SLOW MOTION

Inspired by the success of the first SuperOcean chronograph (Ref. 807), Willy Breitling hoped to improve the technical side of his diving watch by offering a new chronograph that would allow easy and safe reading of diving time, even at extreme depths.

Because a minute counter was too small and not easy to read underwater, Willy Breitling decided to use the main chronograph hand to indicate diving time. To this end, Breitling developed a unique chronograph calibre called “Slow Motion”, which allows the chronograph hand to move around the dial in slow motion, i.e. in one hour instead of one minute. The diver can then read the dive time directly from the hand and the timer on the dial without the need for a minute counter.

Willy Breitling found a technical solution to this problem and developed a running indicator located at 6 o’clock. When the chronograph is running, this indicator displays a yellow disc which turns black with a small yellow dot in the middle when the chronograph is paused and returns to black when it is reset and stopped. Thanks to this ingenious technical feature, there is no longer any risk of forgetting that the chronograph is not running once underwater.

This watch is in perfect condition, as the photos show, and has been fully serviced by Breitling in December 2021 at a cost of €1,700 (details on request).
